15/10/1999 LAS VEGAS -The Department of Dance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has launched a new Presenters' Series featuring guest artists beginning with a 7 p.m. Oct. 28, 1999 concert by the Solstice Dance Theater in Alta Ham Fine Arts Building, Studio 1.
"We're introducing this series in hope of broadening the horizons of UNLV dance students," said Louis Kavouras, chair of the UNLV Department of Dance.
The Solstice Dance Theater, a contemporary jazz and modern fusion company, recently performed at the Dance Mosaic Festival in Palo Alto, CA, and co-produced Dance in the Desert Festival at the Community College of Southern Nevada Nicholas Horn Theater this August. Kyla A. Quintero, artistic director of Solstice, is a gifted choreographer whose work has been enjoyed by audiences all over the world. The repertory of the theater focuses on storytelling in the universal language of movement.
The Presenters' Series continues in November with the New Steps Concert Series featuring guest artists James Healey from the Malashock Dance Company and Casey Carney. Four performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Nov. 18, 19, 20, and 2 p.m. on Nov. 20. In February, the new series will present guest artist Claire Porter, a solo dance artist based in New York.
Tickets are $5 general admission and are available now at the Performing Arts Center Box Office, 895-ARTS.
