05/04/2001 Martin to display modern and contemporary art collection at Bellagio
Steve Martin, comedian, actor, and Academy Awards host, will display his collection of modern and contemporary art at Bellagio hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip on April 7.
Martin's 28 piece collection includes works by Georges Seurat, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, David Hockney, Edward Hopper, and others. Works by David Park and Neil Jenney that Martin has donated to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will also be included in the show.
Although, ?the juxtaposition of great art in Las Vegas seems almost like an oxymoron,? says Alan Feldman, spokesman for MGM Mirage resorts, which owns Bellagio, ?the real reason? Martin says he chose Las Vegas for his first-ever show is because ?it sounds like fun.?
Bellagio and The Venetian are two upscale resorts trying to improve Las Vegas's image by encouraging museum-quality art galleries.
