24/05/2001 May 24, 2001 LAS VEGAS -- MGM Grand continues its tradition of bringing world-class entertainment to Las Vegas announcing today a first from Paris: “La Femme,” a show direct from one of the finest nightspots in the world, the original Crazy Horse. Since 1951, Crazy Horse has been famous for its productions celebrating beautiful women and the artistry of the nude. With this Paris icon's debut at the MGM Grand on Thursday, June 14, “La Femme” establishes a permanent home in the United States.
All 13 dancers in “La Femme” are members of the original Paris dance troupe. Trained in ballet, the dancers perfectly integrate into the sensuous, provocative choreography of their performances as their bodies are bathed in richly colored and textured lighting designs. The effect is mesmerizing, and as one reviewer describes “a dream that fires the imagination.”
“‘La Femme' combines the ever-increasing level of sophistication of Las Vegas shows with the city's world-renowned history of featuring beautiful women in its shows,” said Richard Sturm, MGM MIRAGE President/COO of Entertainment and Sports. “‘La Femme' brings the French reverence for sensuality and the famed Parisian sense of style to Las Vegas. This production adds to our city's list of must see shows like ‘O' at the Bellagio and Siegfried and Roy at The Mirage,” Sturm added.
For more than 50 years, this French cultural phenomenon has drawn international and U.S. celebrities from the worlds of film, music, television, theater, sports and politics, including Madonna, Warren Beatty, Sophia Loren, Eric Clapton, Elizabeth Taylor, Sting and Elvis Presley, to name just a few.
MGM Grand will showcase the production in a new theater at the resort dedicated to “La Femme” and designed to re-create the one-and-only Crazy Horse located on Avenue George V in Paris. Stage dimensions, interior design, fabric, colors and tabletops will duplicate the original. As does the venue in Paris, the MGM Grand La Femme Theater seats less than 400, creating an intimate environment where guests are fully enveloped in the sensations of music and light.
Prior to each evening's performance of “La Femme,” the audience will be treated to an archival filmed montage of the life and times inside the Crazy Horse offering a glimpse of Parisian social life over the last half-century.
“La Femme” will appear twice nightly Wednesday through Monday at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The show will be dark on Tuesday. Guests must be at least 21 years of age to attend the show. Tickets will go on sale to the public on May 30. Tickets for “La Femme” are priced at $49 inclusive and can be purchased by calling MGM Grand Reservations at (800) 929-1111 or (702) 891-7777. Tickets are also sold on-line at www.mgmgrand.com.
