| Residents protest against proposed casino |
26/02/2001 Morgan City concerned citizens object to local gambling hall A Louisiana group opposed to putting a riverboat casino in the Morgan City area organized a petition with more than 60 pages of signatures from residents opposed to having a gambling hall near their homes. The Concerned Citizens of Morgan City and Surrounding Communities Group said that they had collected 816 signatures. Louisiana Horizons LLC together with Isle of Capri, are one of three groups that have applied for Louisiana's 15th and final riverboat gambling license. Shortly after the petitions were handed over to the City Council, city attorney Robert Duffy said that a resolution concerning a possible Morgan City site had been removed from the council's agenda. Two other sites, that have the support of the local councils, are under consideration. |
