| Nevada to tackle issue of online gaming |
18/07/2001 Nevada Gaming Commission plans online gaming forum In order to understand the issues at hand regarding the subject on online gaming in the US, the Nevada state gaming commission is planning a two-day forum of expert panels later this month. Just last month, Nevada passed legislation allowing gaming regulators to set up a framework to supervise online gaming. Now the state, that is synonymous with land based gambling, may become the first to allow gambling over the Internet, once the matter is resolved on a federal level. Aside from a legal panel, the forum plans to have panels that address issues including the issue of cross state gambling, underage gambling, the economic effects of gambling, secfurity systems, money laundering and problem gambling. The forum is set to begin on July 31, with participants coming in from as far away as Australia. Brian Sandoval, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, which is organizing the event, believes the forum, which is expected to attract a great deal of media attention, will be the first in a series. "Follow-up forums would be ongoing through the fall," he said. "A lot depends on information we receive a the forum. Certainly we will move forward and dedicate the amount of time necessary to satisfy ourselves with the technology associated with each of the individual issues." |
