14/07/2002 eBay intends to stop offering PayPal for E-Gaming iundustry
Online gamblers, most of whom can no longer use U.S. credit cards are about to lose another payment option to fund their gaming activity. Online auctioneer, eBay, plans to purchase Paypal in an estimated $1.5 billion stock transaction. eBay said Monday it intends to stop offering the payment service for Internet gambling transactions. Their explanation refered to the "uncertain regulatory environment surrounding online gaming". EBay decided it was not safe to continue co-operation with the gaming industry. Such desicion may make sence for eBay, but analysts say that for the industry it might be a problem.
Many gaming firms have used Paypal and seems like now they are forced to look for new solutions. Paypal prevention is just a part of major issue: the Gaming industry is in need for alternative payment methods, and although there are several payment solutions avaliable on the market, it is hard to predict which will replace such a large-in-use system as PayPal.
