| Happy day: throwing bosses off the boat |
10/21/2001 Trump Casino employees factually chosen to throw their bosses off the boat and into the water on Friday. The captain Bob Goodman of the ship joined in the water by several members of the casino's management team who were voted off the ship by their staff as a reward for meeting their contributions goal in the Lake Area United Way campaign. . "It's great," said cocktail server Lori Glass, as she watched the managers jump into the water from the rear deck of the boat. "I wish one of us were able to push one of them off." The employees were promised if they met the goal they could choose the managers they wanted to jump off the floating casino into Buffington Harbor where the casino is docked The majority of the employees were inside working while the managers were playing in the water. The event was videotaped for employees to watch later. The employees have pledged $45,000 to this year's United Way campaign. The Trump Co. is matching those donations, and a Lilly Endowment Fund will contribute a dollar amount equal to the difference between last year's and this year's contributions. That brings the casino's total 2001 United Way donation to $121,000. Casino general manager Cathy Walker said she was expecting to be voted off the boat. "I thought in such a time of tragedy it's unbelievable what (the employees) were able to do," Walker said of the contributions. Some of the managers couldn't resist having a little fun when they hit the water and began an impromptu coordinated swimming demonstration. The managers were protected by wet suits and flotation devices. The casino?s marine department employees rescued them. Goodman said the man overboard drill is practiced three times a week but normally they throw "Rescue Andy," a dummy, into the water. |
