| A gamblers winning Streak continued in the divorce court |
2/1/2001 Real estate tycoon wins despite defying restraining order not to overspend 53-year-old real estate tycoon, Tamir Sapir, was issued a temporary restraining order in September restricting him to spending only money needed for living expenses. The order also barred him from spending more than US$100,000 on anything without court approval. However, he disobeyed court orders by gambling with marital assets. Despite this, a New York divorce judge has refused to cite him for contempt. Although Sapir admitted to risking a higher sum while gambling in Atlantic City, he actually won US$1.14 million at the tables, which he then deposited into he and his estranged wife?s joint bank account. Sapir claimed that since he actually won money gambling, there was no harm done. State Supreme Court Justice Judith Gische agreed. "That is partially why the court cannot find him in contempt," she explained. "Since he actually won money, which he deposited into a joint account, his actions did not actually defeat, impair or impede her [Bella Sapir's] rights." |
